To surface challenges as well as solutions to the gender-environment data gap, GEDA hosted a high-level launch event on the margins of the opening of the 77th session of the UN General Assembly and of New York Climate Week.
This 1 hour, 15-minute hybrid session features speakers from several of GEDA’s co-founding members, including UNFCCC, UNFPA, UN Women, Data2X, and WEDO.
The Global Conference on Gender and Environment Data was held 28-29 November 2023 in Dubai, organized by UN Women, UNFCCC, the COP28 Presidency, and the UN Climate Change High Level Champions, alongside IUCN and WEDO, the co-conveners of GEDA. With more than 300 participants in person and online, the Conference delivered a call to action on all world leaders, policymakers, practitioners and activists to urgently strengthen multi-stakeholder partnerships to support the production, uptake, financing, and inclusive management and governance of global gender and environment data.
At COP28, on December 3, 2023, GEDA organized an official side event to highlight GEDA members’ work on gender and environment data collection across regions. Speakers highlighted the need for more inclusive and intersectional data production and use, including through feminist participatory action research, and the value of both quantitative and qualitative data for climate action.
